LONDON (AP) – Newcastle and Sunderland say they have accepted misconduct charges by the Football Association following their ill-tempered 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Both clubs were charged by the governing body over a flare-up that followed Sunderland winger James McClean’s late challenge on Newcastle’s Danny Simpson in the first half of the March 4 match.

The players were both booked for touching foreheads as they confronted each other.

The northeast clubs will be handed sanctions at personal hearings requested with the FA at a date yet to be confirmed.

Sunderland had Stephane Sessegnon sent off during the match for elbowing Demba Ba before teammate Lee Cattermole was red-carded after the final whistle for foul and abusive language.
