PETALING JAYA: Coach Irfan Bakti has apologised to the Selangor fans following their exit in the Malaysia Cup semi-finals. The Red Giants have ended their campaign empty handed for the second consecutive season. Much was expected from Irfan, the former Terengganu coach, who led the Turtles to win the FA Cup last season.

However, their opponents Kelantan look simply unstoppable in their chase for the dream treble this season. They defeated Selangor 2-0 in the second leg to go through 3-0 on aggregate in the semifinals and will now take on Premier League champions Armed Forces in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday.

On Friday, it was like a Cup final atmosphere at the Shah Alam Stadium with both set of fans filling the 80,000 capacity stadium.

Selangor, who trailed 1-0 from the first-leg in Kota Baru, had a fighting chance to over-turn the result but all their attempts came to nought against a stubborn Kelantan defence. “I have to apologise for letting down Selangor fans who came in the thousands to support us,” said Irfan. “We were porous in midfield and kept losing the ball especially in the second half. It is back to drawing board for us now.”
