INDONESIAN football’s poster boy Irfan Bachdim has called on his team-mates to give their all when they face hosts and bitter rivals Malaysia in their final AFF Suzuki Cup Group B match tonight.

The 24-year-old Irfan said that they will have to go all out to get the three points against Malaysia. The Garuda are leading the group with four points and just need a draw to progress to the semi-finals.

“We are leading the standings with four points but it might not be enough, so we need to beat Malaysia,” said Irfan.

“We beat Singapore and we should move on. But in reality the job is not done yet as we have one more game to play.”

“We cannot be complacent after the win over Singapore because the match against Malaysia will determine our progress from the group.”

Irfan was part of the Indonesia team in 2010 edition of the AFF Suzuki Cup, where they beat Malaysia 5-1 in the group stage before losing 4-2 on aggregate in the final.

Indonesia have never won the biennial competition, ending up as the bridesmaid on four occasions in – 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2010.

“There will be a lot talk about the past but our aim is to win and make sure we bring the Cup back home,” said the Persema Malang club hitman.

“We played hard and we were deserving winners against Singapore. And we need to keep our good work against Malaysia.”
