KOTA BARU: Former Kelantan striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, who bought out his contract with Kelantan, has allegedly not settled the amount although he has signed to play for Johor Darul Takzim.
Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) president Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that according to the terms and conditions set by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Norshahrul should have paid the amount for buying out his existing contract with KAFA 30 days after signing with Johor Darul Takzim. Annuar, who did not reveal the amount due, said the player’s existing contract with KAFA was worth RM400,000.
“We are not disputing his decision to end the contract but he has not settled the amount owed to us for buying out the contract and it leaves us with no choice but to report the matter to the FAM Player Status Committee,” Annuar said after announcing the sponsors and launching the team’s outfit for the new season.
“We have filed an affidavit with FAM and hope the matter can be resolved soon.”
He said that although the FAM had the authority to decide whether one can play or not after buying out his contract, “the matter should not be viewed lightly as other players too might not follow the terms and conditions set by the governing body”.
“How can you allow a player to feature in the league whereas, technically speaking, the contract has not been terminated? The contract becomes invalid only after the settlement has been done, so it is not correct,” said Annuar.
“We want to see this as a precedence case because this is the first time such an arrangement is taking place in the M-League. Signing for another team is normal but we must issue a release letter for him to play for the new team.”
Norshahrul still had 13 months of his contract when he signed with Johor Darul Takzim. — Bernama
