KUANTAN: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has admitted that no one can hold on to their posts forever and that a time will come when they will have to step down.
“Such a situation can befall anyone, including me,” he said after visiting several flood-hit villages here yesterday.
“We cannot deny the fact that one day I will also have to end my term in office, either graciously or otherwise.
“We have to accept it as being part and parcel of running an association. When the national team fail, all kinds of accusations are hurled at us, including asking the office-bearers to quit.
“But when the team win, nobody talks about it.”
He was commenting on calls by certain quarters, including former internationals, urging FAM president Sultan Ahmad Shah to step down and allow someone with a better vision and ideas to take over.
They also urged for a change in the administration of the FAM.
But Tengku Abdullah replied: “Even if there are constant calls for change, they should be constructive … and a new leader identified before even seeking a change.” — Bernama
