PETALING JAYA: Striker Lubomir Tupta was the toast for the Slovakia Under-15 team when he scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Frenz United Malaysia to help his team reach the final at the MBPJ Stadium.
The 14-year-old, who is on the books of Slovakia’s oldest club Tatran Presov, goes into tomorrow’s final as the tournament’s leading scorer with four goals.
A Samuel Ondira lob enabled Tupta to beat Frenz United goalkeeper Adam Zairi Fitri Zaini in the 31st minute.
Tupta got his second five minutes later when his speed and trickery allowed him to dribble past Adam Zairi before slotting home.
But Slovakia’s opponents in the final will only be known today as the earlier semi-final clash between Malaysia Under-15 and Persepolis of Iran was abandoned due to lightning and heavy rain.
The match kicked off at 4.30pm but play was halted – after Persepolis had taken a 40th-minute lead through Nima Daghestani – following a torrential downpour and lightning.
The teams will play a fresh 80-minute match today with the score 0-0, according to tournament regulations.
