PETALING JAYA: The national Under-15 team’s dreams of winning the Frenz International Cup ended after losing 1-0 to Iran’s Persepolis in the semi-final replay at the MBPJ Stadium.

A 14th minute goal by Karimipiraghoom yesterday was enough to seal Persepolis’ place in the final, where they will meet the Solvakian Under-15 side at the same venue today.

The semi-final had to be replayed after Friday’s match was abandoned due to a thunderstorm with Persepolis leading 1-0.

National Under-15 head coach S. Balachandran said he’s satisfied with the experience they’ve gained from the tournament.

“I think the team did quite well despite having a very short time to prepare,” he said.

“We played well against the likes of Incheon Selection, Slavia Praha and Persepolis. The boys and I will now move to Gambang in Pahang and we’ll see how it goes after that.”

Persepolis head coach Saied Tehrani Nejad was happy to see his team in the final.

“I’m very happy with the performance of the team because the Malaysians played very well,” he said. “The Malaysians are very tough opponents … we’re happy to be in the final.”
