By K. RAJAN – SHAH ALAM: Selangor ended surprise package Pahang’s unbeaten three-match run with a 3-2 win in a Super League match at the Shah Alam Stadium last night.
The Red Giants’ new signing Mohd Ramzul Zahini Adenan was the hero scoring the winner in the 80th minute.
The former Kelantan striker came in as a late substitute in the 78th minute and did not let down coach Irfan Bakti when he floated in a stinging header beating Pahang custodian Nasril Nourdin from close range.
The tightly contested match saw Selangor race to 2-0 lead with Mohd Amri Yahyah scoring a brace in the second and 20th minute.
But the Elephants staged a gallant fightback with new national team call-up Mohd Fauzi Rozlan pulling back a goal for the visitors in the 23rd minute before Razman Roslan equalised from a penalty in the 42nd minute.
Pahang’s attack led by Fauzi Rozlan and Azamuddin Akil and the fleet-footed flanker’s R. Gopinathan and R. Surendran gave the much needed spark for the east coast side’s fightback and Selangor were reeling.
Despite the loss, Pahang still lead the standings on better goal difference from Selangor and Lions XII. In Singapore, Lions XII came from behind to edge Terengganu 2-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Cameroon striker Jean Effa Owona put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute but the homesters turned on the heat after the breather with two goals through Safuwan Baharuddin and Shafiq Zainal in the 65th and 75th minutes respectively.
In Paroi, Mohd Failee Ghazali scored a stoppage time goal for Perak to carve out a narrow 1-0 win over Negri Sembilan at the Tuanku Abdu Rahman Stadium.
After last night’s matches, Terengganu and Negri Sembilan are the only teams in the league still without a win after four matches.
