PETALING JAYA: Selangor centreback Ramez Dayoub was a proud man after picking up his man-of-the-match award in the 2-0 win over Kelantan in a Super League match at the Shah Alam Stadium on Friday.
Ramez gave a splendid display to break up the Kelantan attacks before capping his award-winning performance with a towering header to double the Red Giants’ lead after Francis Doe’s opener.
The 28-year-old Dayoub, who scored five goals last season, said he was lucky to open his scoring account and was surprised to be named as the man of the match.
“I was lucky to score. The other players had several chances but they were unlucky,” said the former Lebanese international.
“I’m more used to stopping others from scoring, so when I scored it felt great. I hope to score more goals.
“I’m surprised to win the award but it’s a pleasant surprise. Awards like these are a motivation and I’ll continue to work hard.”
Dayoub said the team’s set-piece drills paid off in the match. Earlier in the match, last season’s Golden Boot winner Doe opened the scoring from a header.
“We always try to win our matches and our set-piece drills paid off this time,” said Dayoub.
“Kelantan are the best team in Malaysia but Selangor have improved. We have several new players and we are much more determined now.”
